Robert W. Day, age 85, husband of the late Dorothy J. (Brown) Day of Salem died Tuesday evening in the Peabody Glenn Nursing Home.

Born in Danvers, the son of the late Ralph and Edith (Wilkinson) Day , he was raised and educated in Danvers. While growing up, he helped his father in the family potato chip business, known as Day's Potato Chips, which served the North Shore area. Following his graduation from Holten High School in the Class of 1942, Mr. Day served in the United States Army. Sergeant Day served in the 412th Fighter Group 31st Fighter Squadron as an airplane armorer and was also a sub machine gun expert.

Once discharged from the Army, he returned home to the potato chip business on Dodge Court in Danvers. As the business grew he provided chips to many local schools and stores for several years. Later, Mr. Day became employed as a route driver for Boyd's Chip for several years until his retirement.

Dedicated to his family, Mr. Day held a private pilots license and enjoyed flying. He was also an active of the Amity Mosaic Masonic Lodge in Danvers as well as an associate member of the Division 18 A.O.H in Salem.

He is survived by two children, Patricia Dumond and her husband Daniel of Peabody and Robert Day Jr. of Lynn; two grandchildren Jennifer Liberge and her husband of Salem and Lisa Sullivan and her husband Paul of Essex; two great grandchildren Kayla Mulloy of Essex and Daniel Robert Liberge of Salem and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother Leonard Irving Day and two sisters Eleanor Day and Barbara Perkins.

His funeral service will be held on Monday at 10:30 A.M. in the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 2:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. Interment will be Friday, May 8 at 10:30 A.M. in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. Please meet at the main cemetery entrance located at 57 Orne St at 10:15 A.M. .
