Robert A. "Bob" Fraser, age 86, loving husband for 57 years of Ruth (Anderson) Fraser of Salem, died Monday, February 1, 2010 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House following a long illness.

Born and raised in Salem the son of the late Joseph and Yvonne (Roy) Fraser, he attended St. Joseph's School and Salem High School where Mr. Fraser played football for Coach Bill Broderick. Just after the outbreak of World War II, Mr. Fraser left high school to serve in the United States Army in the Mediterranean Theater of operation as a transportation specialist. Mr. Fraser was later present his diploma from Salem High School.

Following his discharge he joined the family business with his father and brothers at Fraser Motor Express in Salem serving much of the North Shore and greater Boston area for many years until his retirement. Mr. Fraser was well known by all who knew him for his woodworking skills. He honored his family with their home which he, with his wife at his side personally built as well as many gifts including his sewing cabinets and roll top desk. He also had developed a reputation for his "Flying Book Shelves" which he built and sold as an ongoing project for the Victorri Rocci Post 56, where he was a member. Over the years he had raised more than $17,000 to benefit the club.

His greatest pride in life was his family, children and grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children Mark and his wife Mary Ellen Fraser of Middleton, Anne Kelleher and her husband Buddy Sweet of Rowley, Peter Fraser and his wife Sara Pruzina of Cambridge England, Robert Jr. and his wife Dee-Dee Fraser of Wilmington, NC and Dana Fraser and his wife Lisa Legere-Fraser of Swampscott; two brothers Arthur Fraser of Marblehead and Richard Fraser of Seabrook, NH, a sister Yvonne Martel of FL; 10 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by three brothers Wilfred, Raymond and Paul Fraser and a sister Lucienne Fraser.

His funeral will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at 9:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal ST (cor of North ST) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 260 North ST., Salem (on the Salem Peabody line). Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Friday from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
