Richard Eugene Simard, Barber and Stylist, of Salem, MA died on April 17, 2015, he was 75. Dick was born in Salem, MA on January 31, 1940 to his parents Noe and Flora (Theriault) Simard, also of Salem. He was graduated from Salem High School in 1958, where he was a four year starting pitcher for the "Witches" earning 4 letters. He was an ardent baseball fan and sponsored many youth baseball teams in Salem.
Following high school, Dick joined the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1962. Dick attended barber school in Boston and worked for several shops on the North Shore prior to purchasing his uncle's shop on Washington Street in Salem. He later opened his current salon on Essex Street in Salem, where he proudly displayed a large collection of caps and photos of his clientele. He barbered for some 40 years in this City.
In his spare time Mr. Simard enjoyed boating and fishing and cruising along the North Shore coast and was a long time member of the Palmer's Cove Yacht Club. Many recall his two boats, the "Harbor Barber" and the Coinn t'Saile. He was also an active member of the VFW Post 1524 of Salem and the Gerry 5 VFA of Marblehead, Wyoming Lodge AF + AM and a former Boy Scout Troop Committee man for Troop 72 or Salem.
Mr. Simard is survived by his caring and loving wife Diane Tahany Simard of Salem. He also leaves his former wife Rebecca of Newburyport and their three children, Christina Leonard and her husband Michael and their children Meryle and Cameron all of Newburyport, Noreen Waddell and her husband Randy of Byfield, Richard Simard and his wife Charity of Newburyport. He is also survived by his loving sister Linda Cocoran and her husband Joseph and their children Christopher and Joseph. Dick leaves many friends and loyal customers who truly enjoyed his wit and humor. His passing will leave many of us in sadness and sorrow, but Dick would have us remember all of the happy and pleasant memories we shared with him for many years.
His Funeral will be held from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem on Friday at 10:45 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Anne Church, 290 Jefferson Ave., Salem at 11:30 A.M. Visiting hours will be at the Murphy Funeral Home on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
