Richard (Rick) Gachignard, age 72, of Salem passed away on Sunday, January 18, at Kaplan Family Hospice in Danvers. He was born on January 26,1953 in Salem to Leon and Clair Gachignard. Richard was predeceased by his parents and brothers Raymond and Paul.
He was married for over 54 years to Mary Ann (Davis) Gachignard. He attended Salem Public Schools and was a long-time employee at Parker Games in Salem. Richard was a proud Salem resident and loved learning and sharing its history. While at Parker Brothers he spent time working in their facility in Mexico where he enjoyed meeting and training employees and learning about their culture.
Richard and Mary Ann enjoyed camping for many years, then moved on to airline and hotel travel. Richard was well-loved by his extended family. He enjoyed living at Pickman Park condominiums, taking long walks, and meeting new friends along the way. The neighbors at Pickman Park have been generous and helpful to both Richard and Mary Ann in recent months.
Richard is survived by his wife Mary Ann, his sister-in-law Jean Davis of Ashland, MA, brothers-in-law Paul Davis (Theresa) of Tucson, AZ and Ted Davis of Intervale, NH, his nieces Christine Cherkis (Joel) of Redmond, WA, Laurie Henighan (Tom) of Walpole, MA, Lindsey Davis of Melrose, MA, and Leslie Davis (John Faedi) of Monterey, MA.
Mary Ann would like to thank Care Dimensions home hospice staff and Kaplan House staff for their support and guidance over the past several weeks.
A celebration of Richard’s life will be held on Sunday, February 15, 2026 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Murphy Funeral Home located at 85 Federal St. Salem, MA 01970. The family looks forward to welcoming friends and neighbors at that time.
