Richard H. "Dick" Sherman, Sr., age 69, husband of Donna M. (Raftery) Sherman of Salem, died early Saturday morning, January 30, 2010 in the Devereux House Nursing Home, Marblehead.


Born in Boston the son of the late Louis and Bessie (Salsberg) Sherman, he never really got to know his parents as they both predeceased him before his sixth birthday. Mr. Sherman was raised in Swampscott by his uncle, David Sherman, who owned Sherman's Furniture.


After graduating high school in Boston, Mr. Sherman received his business degree and was employed in the Construction industry for 10 years until becoming employed by Arrow Tech for three years. He retired from the General Electric River Works Plant where he built aircraft engines until becoming ill.

A proud father and grandfather, Mr. Sherman was a talented craftsman. He enjoyed carpentry and painting projects around his home.


He is survived by three children, Lori Picanco and her husband Mike of Peabody, Richard H Sherman and his wife Jill of Lynn and Elizabeth Sherman and Paul and three grandchildren Cassandra, Jeremy and Justin.


His funeral will be held on Wednesday February 3, at 11:00 A.M. in the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visitation will be immediately before the funeral from9:30 A.M. to 11:00 A.M.in the funeral home. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn.
