Condon
November 29, 1931 – June 27, 2022
SALEM- Richard J. Condon (90), of Salem, passed away with his family by his side on the morning of Monday June 27, 2022. Born in Salem, Richard was the son of the late Julia (Cronin) and William H. Condon.
Throughout his life, Richard spent all his time in Salem from attending school to playing sports in the local CYO leagues. Devout in his faith, Richard attended the Immaculate Conception Church receiving all his sacraments there. Upon graduating from Salem High School in 1949, Richard enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and fought in the Korean War. Upon his Honorable Discharge, he came home and married the love of his life Frances (Griffin). They would have shared 70 years of marriage this year.
As he started his family, he went on to work for New England Telephone for 38 years before retiring in 1991. Richard loved playing golf and basketball in local leagues with his friends and family. However, his true passion and love was his family. He shared as much time as he could with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Above all, Richard will be remembered as the loving and providing husband, father, and grandfather to his family and a dear friend to all who knew him.
Richard is survived by: his loving wife Frances Condon; his children Richard Condon and his wife Nancy, Robert Condon and his wife Laura, Cathleen McCarthy and her husband David, Michael Condon and his wife Donna, Patricia Barton and her husband Douglas, and Susan Condon; his grandchildren Danielle, Shana, Marissa, Becky, Kelley, Danny, Erin, Rachel, Brian, Phil, Tracy; his 12 great grandchildren and his great-great grandchild.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday June 30, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Murphy Funeral Home, located at 85 Federal St. in Salem. A funeral mass will be held on Friday July 1, 2022 beginning at 11:00 AM at the Immaculate Conception Church, located at 15 Hawthorne Blvd, Salem, MA 01970, burial to follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, 57 Orne St. Salem, MA 01970.
