Salem….
Richard J. Bernier age 84, devoted and loving husband of the late Margaret E. (Cullen) Bernier of Salem died in the Kaplan Family Hospice House on Sunday, July 31 2011 following a brief illness.
Born raised and educated in Beverly the son of the late Arthur and Diana M. (Delisle) Bernier, he was graduated from Beverly High School in the Class of 1944. Mr Bernier then joined the United States Navy and proudly served the country. He received his basic training in New York and then was stationed aboard the USS Tidewater with service in the African Middle Eastern Theater of operation.
Following his discharge Mr. Bernier became a union painter with Local 1280 in Revere for many years until retiring as a foreman. Mr. Bernier loved being with his wife. They were frequently seen walking together hand in hand around the neighborhood. Over the years they had traveled the world while he enjoyed collecting shells, deep sea fishing, and Mohegan Sun. Mr. Bernier always had a warm smile and friendly wave to his neighbors as they passed by his home. He was a loving father, grandfather , great grandfather and inspiration to all who knew him.
Mr. Bernier is survived by his three children Glenn Bernier of Salem, Gail and her husband Dana of Las Vegas, NV and Kathy Larrabee and her husband Dean of Peabody; six grandchildren Daryn Kay, Justin Kay, Kristin Bernier, Stephanie Bernier, Deanna Larrabee, and Alysia Larrabee; three great grandchildren Taryn, Dominick, Anthony and was looking forward to his newest grandson in the fall as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son Richard L. Bernier; a brother Raymond Bernier and two sisters Theresa Malski and Rita Stevens.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal ST (cor of North St) Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
