Salem....
Raymond A. Jalbert age 98 years died Monday January 24, 2011 at Salem Hospital. He was the husband of the late Mary A. (Wholley) Jalbert.
Born in Salem December 18, 1912 he was the son of Alfred and Helena (LeBlanc) Jalbert. He lived in Salem most of his life.
A veteran of World War II he served in Africa and Italy. On August 13, 2006, after 52 years, he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for injuries he suffered In Italy in July 1944. Congressman John Tierney presented him with his medals and representatives from the State, and the Town of Marblehead also were there to present him with citations. A celebration followed with relatives and friends.
Mr. Jalbert worked in the Halbern and Thompson Leather factory and retired after many years from Atwood and Morril in Salem.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law John and Mary Ellen Jalbert of Marblehead with whom he resided, his son Raymond J. Jalbert and his wife Mary of Danvers; his grandchildren Stephen Jalbert and his wife Kristen of Marblehead, his granddaughter Michele and her husband Michael Connors of Cumberland, RI, and his granddaughter Andrea Jalbert of Salem , his grandson Joseph Jalbert of Fort Meyers Beach, Florida, Michael Jalbert of Boston, and Mark Jalbert of Danvers; his great grandchildren, Aidan and Connor Jalbert of Marblehead and his great granddaughter Tatum Rae Connors of Cumberland, RI.
He is also survived by his brother Robert "Pete" Jalbert of Peabody and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Alice Frye, Theresa Marraffa, Gertrude Bolduc, Jeannette Eon, Leo Jalbert, Roger Jalbert, and George Jalbert.
We would like to thank Marblehead Veteran's Agent, David Rogers for all his help in obtaining the Purple Heart , Congressman John Tierney and the Board of Selectmen of Marblehead and the State Representatives for giving our Dad, grandfather and great grandfather such a wonderful memory.
We would also like to thank Elaine and Ray Landry and our neighbors, Kathy and Rodney Comeau, Christine and Bernardo Fernandes, and Dorothy and Gary Siden for all their love and support over the years and always including Papa in the "family".
His funeral will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at 8:15 AM from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 9:00 AM in St Anne Church, 292 Jefferson Ave, Salem MA 01960. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Friday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the Murphy Funeral Home. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem.
