Quentin J. Dougherty, age 61, husband of Ruth (Wall) Dougherty of Salem, formerly of Northampton, Ma and Richmond, VA died Thursday December 13, 2007 at Union Hospital in Lynn.


Born in New Rochelle, NY, the son of the late Maurice and Gertrude (Blanchard) Dougherty, he was raised in Port Chester, NY. Following his graduation from Villanova University, he served the United Sates Army during the Vietnam War.


A highly decorated veteran, Mr. Dougherty was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Vietnam Service Medal with three bronze service stars, the Bronze Star Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, the Air Medal, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm and the Army Commendation Medal.


Mr. Dougherty was employed by the Department of Veterans Affairs at the V.A. Medical Center in Leeds, MA. While working in Leeds, he met his loving wife with whom he has shared 15 years of marriage. Together they transferred to the V.A Medical Center in Richmond, VA. where he worked in Medical Administration.


A passionate reader of military history and a Civil War buff, Mr. Dougherty was also an avid golfer and a dedicated New York Yankee fan. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, sisters, nieces and nephews who enjoyed his great sense of humor and fun.


In addition to his wife, Mr. Dougherty is survived by one brother and 6 sisters, Christopher Dougherty, Sarah Marquis, Hannah Claytor, Nora Smith, Bridget Boel, Kate Conant, and Janet Blanchard and many nieces and nephews.


Private funeral services were held on Tuesday, December 18 in the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., Salem. Interment was in Bourne National Cemetery, Bourne, MA. For on line guest book or additional information please visit www.MurphyFuneralHome.com or call 978 744 0497.
