PHYLLIS LORRAINE LYDON

Phyllis Lorraine Lydon, 88 years old of St. Augustine, FL passed away peacefully on January 12, 2019 at Flagler Hospital. Phyllis was born in Charlestown, MA to Thomas and Winifred C. (Quinn) Lydon. She was a graduate of St.Rose's High School, Chelsea, MA. She was an active member in the Girl's Club of Charlestown.

Phyllis received an RN Diploma from Massachusetts General School of Nursing, a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing from the University of Omaha and a Master's Degree in Public Administration from the University of North Florida. Phyllis was a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the USAF Nurse Corps. She was a veteran of the Korean War and Viet Nam War. She was active in many civic and professional organizations. Phyllis was elected to the St. John's County Board of County Commissioners in 1984. She was always known for her kindness and compassion. She was also an avid sports fan and she supported and loved the Florida State Football team and the men's and woman's Basketball teams.

She is survived by E. Katherine Plaines of St. Augustine, her best friend and soul mate, and her sisters Patricia Latham and Carol Devito of Marblehead, MA, and her brothers Paul and his wife Eleanor Lydon of Beverly, MA, and E. Leo Lydon and his wife Eunice of Naples, FL, and many  nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by and her late brother Thomas Lydon Jr. of Columbia, SC.

She was a resident of Allegro Senior Living, St. Augustine, FL at the time of her passing.

Visitation for Phyllis will be held on Saturday July 13, 2019 from 11AM to 12PM at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. (Corner of North St.), Salem, MA.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held following visitation the same day at 12PM also at the Murphy Funeral Home. Burial of her ashes will be at a future date in the Nurses Memorial Section of Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA.  For additional information or online guest book please call 978-744-0497 or visit www.MurphyFuneralHome.com
