Philip A. Weyforth, 80, died suddenly on Sunday night. Born and raised in Baltimore, MD, Phil attended Mount Saint Joseph High School, proudly served during WWII in the US Navy, and graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with a degree in English. Phil's career in sales and management with the Edgecomb Steel Company and other metals companies spanned more than fifty years and was a source of deep satisfaction for him; he will be remembered for his breadth of knowledge of the metals industry, and the pleasure he took in working with his colleagues and customers.
Phil was a passionate fan of jazz and the big bands, bird hunting, dogs, and sailing, and he always appreciated a willing audience for his many stories and opinions about politics. He was an active member of the Salem Rotary Club. A longtime resident of Radnor, PA, and more recently of Salem, MA, Phil spent summers in Kennebunk Beach, ME where he was happiest watching the sea from his favorite chair on the porch.
Phil leaves his beloved wife of fifty years, Elizabeth K. Weyforth, his daughter, Patricia W. Newhall, son-in-law, Charles L. Newhall, two grandchildren, John B. Newhall and Sarah E. Newhall, two sisters, Jane Presley and Ann Walters, and his brother-in-law, Msgr. William J. Kane.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral Mass Fri, February 29th at 10:00 A.M. in the Immaculate Conception Church, 15 Hawthorne Blvd., Salem.
