Philip W. Sherwood, formerly of Marblehead, age 98, husband of the late Phyllis M. (Clarke) Sherwood, died peacefully at the Peabody Glen Health Care Center, surrounded by his family, following a long illness. Born in Waltham, he was the son of the late Luke C. and Myrtle (Sanderson) Sherwood. He was raised in Laconia New Hampshire and was a graduate of Laconia High School's class of 1934.

Following his graduation, Philip attended the General Electric Apprentice Program. He worked his entire career at General Electric until his retirement in the late 1970's. He was a member of the Apprentice Alumni Association and the Quarter Century Club of General Electric and he will be remembered for his love of automobiles.

Surviving him are his four children, Norman P. Sherwood and his wife Christine, Linda J. Comeau, wife of the late Robert Comeau, Karen B. Edelstein and her husband Eliot all of Venice, FL, Charles C. Sherwood and his wife Judith of Cary, NC, his grandchildren Janice Lebel, Holly White, Eric Williams, Norman Sherwood Jr., Barbara Silva, Cheryl Hodges, Julie Shove, Debbie Hatt and the late Philip Kingsley. Also several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Arlene Ayers and Albert Sherwood.


Funeral services were held privately. Arrangements are under the direction of the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., Salem.
