Philip M. Little, age 79, husband of Dorothy K. (Connelly) Little, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 15, at Beverly Hospital.

Born and raised in Salem the son of the late Everett and Agnes ( Maguire) Little, he attended the St. Mary's School, (Immaculate Conception) graduated high school. Mr. Little then enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Johnson Island in Hawaii.

When he returned to Salem, Mr. Little joined his uncle's family business, Maguire Paving where he was employed for many years during the summer. In the winter, Mr. Little was an oil truck driver to White Fuel Company.

He had been a longtime member of the Crow 2 Club and later helped construct the Ward 2 Social Club and was a longtime member.
Mr. Little was greatly influenced by his grandfather, and developed a passion for both the water and history. He became an avid boater he enjoyed fishing on his boat, "Pound Foolish" and was a familiar sight at Winter Island. Over the years, and through his experiences, Mr. Little developed a following for his great stories.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Little is survived by five children, Daniel E. Little and his partner Theresa Moynihan of Beverly, James T. and his wife Mary Little , Suzanne Hasham and her husband John of Groveland, Kevin P. Little and his wife Rachel of Salem and Judith Little of Salem; his sister in law Betty Little of Salem, nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and his "best friend" his dog "Noodles"

He was predeceased by a son Philip D. Little (husband of Diane), a brother Everett "Mike" Little and a sister Eleanor (Little) O'Leary.

His funeral will be held on Wednesday August 22, at 9:15 a.m. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St.) Salem followed by a Funeral Mass at the Immaculate Conception Church, 15 Hawthorne Blvd., Salem at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Internment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem.
