Paul A. O'Brien, age 80, husband of the late Mary (Riley) O'Brien of Beverly died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon in the Sutton Hill Nursing Home, North Andover.
Born, raised and educated in Salem, he was the son of the late Edmund L. and Alice M. (Curran) O'Brien. A graduate of Salem High School and Boston College, Mr. O'Brien served as an Aviation Machinist Mate with the United States Navy during World War II aboard the U.S.S Currituck with Patrol Squadron Two.
Following his discharge he was employed by Transitron in Salem for over 15 years. He then became a Social Worker for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Public Welfare in the Gloucester Office until retiring in the late 1980s.
He was a friend of Bill W and an active member of the Greycroft Club in Beverly.
Mr. O'Brien is survived by three children Kevin O'Brien and his companion Linda Lima of Beverly, Marissa Mears of Beverly and Michele Nowak and her husband Mark of Middleton; three grandchildren John Mears, Allyson and Christopher Nowak and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his twin sister Virginia Eckrote.
His funeral will be held on Friday, August 8 at 10:15 A.M from the Murphy Funeral Home, to be followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. in St. Richards Church, Danvers. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 4 to 7 P.M. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem.
