Salem, MA – Paul George Fournier, age 83, passed away on January 10, 2017 at Salem Hospital. Son of the late Joseph R. Fournier and Olive (Allain) Fournier, he was born and raised in Salem, MA. He attended St. Joseph's School through the eighth grade and then completed his high school education at the Salem Vocational School. After graduation he joined the Marines in February of 1953 and served until 1956 when he was honorably discharged. He then went to work for Leader's Lasts, where he made shoe Lasts until he retired due to disability in 1974.
Paul was outgoing and friendly. He was an avid hunter, fisher and outdoorsman and truly loved nature. He volunteered as a conservationist in the Salem woods for many years. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge in Salem.
Paul is survived by his wife Beverly and his six children Christine Brackett, Deborah Fournier, Paul G. Fournier Jr. and his wife Lori, Mrs. Beverly Mello and her husband Richard, Joseph Fournier and his wife Tina and Christopher Fournier. He is also survived by his many grandchildren and a large extended family.
Visiting hours for Paul will take place on Monday January 16, 2017 from 4 to 8PM at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. (corner of North St.) Salem, MA 01970. A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Tuesday January 17, 2017 at 10AM at Ste. Anne's Church, 290 Jefferson Ave, Salem, MA 01970. In lieu of flowers please consider making a memorial contribution in Paul's memory to The Marine Corp. League detachment #127, C/O VFW 20 Stevens St. Peabody, MA 01960.
