Paul R. Field, 93, loving husband of Paula (Groszyk), of Salem, MA and Naples, FL, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2023, at the Kaplan House in Danvers.
Paul was born on January 23, 1930, to Albert and Mary (McMahon) Field in Atlanta, Georgia. His family moved to Salem when he was an infant and he lived there his whole life. After high school, Paul joined the U.S. Army and served as a frontline medic in the Korean War. After his military service, Paul was employed by the City of Salem Water Department until his retirement.
Paul was an avid golfer and a member of Wenham Country Club for many years as well as Naples Heritage Country Club. He enjoyed the friends and relationships he made at both clubs. He was particularly proud of his three Holes in One during his golfing days. Paul had a love and passion for politics and worked on many local and state campaigns. He was a longtime fan of horse racing and enjoyed his annual trips to Saratoga Racetrack, always 'breaking even'. Paul cherished his Irish heritage and made many trips to Ireland over the years.
In addition to his wife Paula, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage, Paul was a loving father to his children, Barry and his wife Heidi of Boca Raton, FL, Daniel and his wife Kara of Westwood, MA and Katherine and her husband Farouk Al-Shorafa of Marblehead, MA. He was the beloved Papa to his eight grandchildren: Tyler, Chloe, Liam and Aidan Field and Omar, Noah, Adam and Nora Al-Shorafa. Paul is also survived by his brother, Robert (Claire) Field of Salem, MA, his sister-in-law Jacqueline Field of Venice, FL, his brothers-in-law, Walter Groszyk Jr. of Washington D.C., and Robert (Melinda) Groszyk of Salem, MA and many nieces and nephews including his niece Carol (Field) Alvino who lovingly helped care for him. Paul was predeceased by his brothers, Albert, Francis, and Roger Field.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at 10am at St. James Church, 160 Federal St. in Salem. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kaplan Family Hospice House, 78 Liberty St. Danvers, MA 01923, and DAV, Dept of Mass, Attn Dan Stack, State House, Room 546, Boston, MA 02133.
