Patrick John Powell, 59, of Salem, Massachusetts, passed away unexpectedly on April 5, 2026, in Boston.

Born on June 26, 1966, in Salem, Pat was the son of David B. Powell and the late Patricia Powell (Moynihan). A lifelong resident of Salem, Pat built a life rooted in family, loyalty, and connection. He married his beloved wife, Rosemary Powell, in Dublin on May 31, 2014—a place that reflected his deep pride in his Irish heritage.

Pat dedicated 42 years of his life to working at Logan Airport in Boston, where he proudly and humorously referred to himself as an “International Baggage Transfer Specialist.” His work ethic was unmatched, but his greatest achievement was the life he built outside of work—as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

At his core, Pat embodied what it meant to be a family man. He cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren, creating memories that will live on in each of them. He had a gift for storytelling and loved bringing people together, especially in the Irish pub he built in his home—fondly known as “Pat’s Pub”—where laughter, stories, and love were always in abundance. Sundays were always spent watching the New England Patriots, a team he followed with lifelong loyalty. He also shared a deep love of travel with his wife, Rose, with Ireland and Scotland holding a special place in his heart, and frequent trips to Italy creating many lasting memories together.

Pat is survived by his loving wife, Rosemary Powell. He is also survived by his son, Dylan Powell of Peabody, and his daughter, Daryl Tarani and her husband, Nick, of Lowell, along with their mother, Susan. He leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Zarahi, Aubrielle, Daniella, and Alessandra. He is also survived by his father, David B. Powell and his wife, Emilia of Lynn. He is further survived by his siblings: David Powell Jr. and his wife Andrea of Vermont; Thomas Powell and his wife Yong of Randolph; Karen Wieber and her husband Robert of Salem; and Kristine Powell of Salem, along with many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to honor and celebrate Pat’s life. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, April 10, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal Street, Salem. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, April 11, at 9:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church in Swampcott, followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Salem.

Pat will be remembered for his warmth, his humor, his stories, and above all, his unwavering love for his family. His presence filled every room, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved him.
