Patricia E (Pope) Cavanaugh of Salem, passed away after a long illness on Wednesday Nov 27, 2013 at home in the comforting presence of her family.
She was the wife of the late Martin "Jimmy" Cavanaugh who pre-deceased her in 1978. Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late John H and Mary H (Walkovich) Pope.
Pat retired from the Mass Trial Court system (Salem) after serving in various capacities for 22 years.
She is survived by four children: John of Manchester NH, Bonnie and her husband Darryl Stavros of Salem MA, Martin and his wife Leah of Port St Lucie FL and Mark and his companion Lois Bizwanger of Salem, MA.
She is also survived by six grandchildren: Amanda, Sheila, Douglas, Katrina, Darryl and Samantha and one great grandchild Payton. She also leaves behind her sister and best friend Anne (Pope) Baccari of Salem, MA, her sister in law Patricia Kincade of Cortez, CO and an extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins and her beloved and devoted feline companion "Mac". She was a friend and like a mother to many, and always opened her door to anyone in need. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends,
The family would like to thank the staff of Mass General/North Shore Cancer Center for the wonderful and compassionate care they provided throughout her illness and also extends a special thank you to Ruth De Soto of Hospice of the North Shore.
Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at 9:15 AM from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. James Church, 156 Federal St., Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 3:00PM to 7:00PM in the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., Salem. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Lynn. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be made to the Mass General Hospital/North Shore Cancer Center, 102 Endicott St, Danvers, MA 01923 or to a charity of your choice.
