Patricia N. "Pat" (Nichols) Camenga age 79, loving wife of C. Meade "Mike" Camenga for 58 years, of Salem died in Salem Hospital early Friday morning.
Born in Springfield, MA the daughter of the late Fredric and Mary (Deveney) Nichols, she was graduated from Ware High School in the Class of 1945. Following her graduation, she received her Bachelor's Degree from Syracuse University in the Class of 1949, married her husband and settled in Muncy, PA where they began a family.
In 1962 she and her family relocated to Salem. Mrs. Camenga received her Master's Degree in History from Salem State College and then began teaching English and Philosophy at St. James High School in Salem. After the high school closed she continued teaching at St. James Elementary School until it too closed in 1972. She was then a private tutor for students until her retirement.
Mrs. Camenga was active in the Salem community as a member of the Salem Garden Club, the Seaman's Orphans and Widows Society, History Salem Inc., the Women's Friend Society and as a member of P.E.O. She was also a member and past President of the Greater Salem Visiting Nurse Association, a member of the Thread and Needle Society, a volunteer with Christmas in Salem for years and very active in Down's syndrome organizations.
Most of all her children remember her as one heck of a mother who always made her children and family feel special. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren's sporting events and musical performances. She will be greatly missed.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Camenga is survived by five children John Camenga and his wife Carol of Charlotte, NC, Anne Camenga of Peabody, Patricia Kaplon and her husband Kerry of Essex, Susan Bailey and her husband Mark of Ipswich, Catherine McClenaghan and her husband Steven of Ipswich; eight grandchildren Michael Camenga, Jeffrey and Jay Kaplon, Chandra, Seth and Emily Bailey and Derek and Rachel McClenaghan and many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother William Nichols.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday at 10:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal ST (cor of North St.) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. in St. James Church, 161 Federal St., Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Burial will be private.
