Obituary

Norris Evans Branscombe, age 74, of Marblehead passed away with his loving wife, Mary Ellen Branscombe, of 46 years, as well as Massachusetts General Hospital doctors and personnel who had come to know him through his extensive volunteering also by his side.

Norris was born in Fort Sill, Oklahoma in 1944.  Days after his birth, he and his family moved to the New York area where he was raised by his late parents Norris Branscombe and Egea "D'Angio" Branscombe.

Throughout his childhood, Norris and his family would move around the country before settling in Marblehead when Norris was thirteen years old. He went on to attend Marblehead High School, where he graduated and worked as a repairman for televisions and electronics.

As Norris crafted his skills as a repairman, he then went on to work for Audio Lab in Cambridge, MA, repairing stereo systems and other electronics.  When Norris later met the love of his life Mary Ellen "Walsh" Branscombe, it was love at first sight.  They married in June the following year.

Norris then began working in the trucking and freight industry, specializing in IT operations, and eventually becoming Vice President of Operations at Coastal, Inc.

Norris was a lifelong believer in service and learning.  Practicing what Norris preached, he volunteered more than 6,000 hours to the Cardiac Care Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital over 25 years.  He was a long time member of an Institutional Review Board at Massachusetts General Hospital as well.  His devoted service to Massachusetts General Hospital will be deeply missed by all the lives he touched.

Outside of his service, Norris had lifelong interests in both science and medicine, focusing on electronics and cardiology.

Norris is survived by: his wife of 46 years Mary Ellen "Walsh" Branscombe of Marblehead, his two stepsons Richard F. Regan and Matthew J. Regan, both of Marblehead, his sister-in-law Sarah Goldsmith and her husband Robert of Carlisle, MA, his niece Kathleen Weislein of Marblehead, and his great-niece Alexa Weislein of Marblehead.
