Nickolas J. George, age 89, husband for 64 years of Stella (Vallis) George of Salem died Sunday, February 12, 2012 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers, following a brief illness.
Born in Peabody, the son of the late James and Irene (Andreadis) George he was raised and educated in Peabody. Following his graduation from Peabody High School, Mr. George joined the United States Army Air Corps, 9th Troop Carrier Squadron as Staff Sergeant, Aerial Engineer and was stationed at Saipan until the end of the War.
A hard working man who embraced life and all it had to offer, Mr. George often had more than one career at a time. He had worked with Met Life in Salem, the A.J. George Insurance Agency and had been a seasonal tax preparer for Dave Keefe in Lynn.
A longtime member of the St. Vasilios Church Men's Club, he enjoyed travel to destinations including Las Vegas, the Bahamas, Aruba, Reno, and Eastern Canada. He had a great sense of humor, laughed daily and was a dedicated Red Sox and Patriots Fan and also enjoyed NFL as a whole football..
Mr. George is survived by two sons, Peter N and his wife Janet George and James N. George and his wife Joan all of Salem; five grandchildren Jakki George, Anthony P George, Jason George, Julia and her husband Nick Minichillo and Jill George.
He was predeceased by two brothers Anthony George and United States Air Force
Lt Charles George and two sisters Bessie George and Catherine George.
His funeral will be held on Friday at 10:15 AM from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., Salem to be followed by Funeral Services at 11:00 AM in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 7 Paleologos St., Peabody, MA 01960. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
