Naomi J. (Powers) MacIver, 75, loving wife of Frank M. MacIver, of Marblehead died peacefully Saturday morning, October 25, 2014, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. The daughter of the late William and Marie (Knuutilla) Powers, she was a life long resident of Marblehead and graduated from Marblehead High School with the class of 1957.
While raising three children she finished her education from Burdett College with high honors. She worked for the Marblehead Light Department, Town Accountant's office and was appointed to Treasurer in 1982. During that time, she took on the dual role of Treasurer/Collector and was also one of the founding members of the Marblehead Credit Union. She retired from the town in 2001.
She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, sewing, researching family genealogy and was an avid gardener. She was also a volunteer at the Marblehead Historical Society and a member of the Massachusetts Collectors and Treasurers Association and the Harbor Women's Club.
In addition to her husband, Naomi is survived by her three children Frank W. MacIver of Marblehead, Kathy Whiton and her husband Ernie of Middleton and Cindy Schlesinger and her husband John of Benson, NC; six grandchildren Derek and Kelly MacIver; Carissa, Corey and Morgan Whiton and Andrew Schlesinger and one great grandson Jack Ducker. She was the loving sister to William (Belo) H. Powers, Nancy P. Wade (deceased) and Wendy P. Foss and stepdaughter to Janice Hulsman. She was a devoted aunt to Tobyn Wade and Kim Cutting of Salem, Brett Powers (deceased) and Tiffany Foss of Bend, Oregon.
Visiting hours will be held at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. in Salem on Wednesday, October 29 from 4 to 8 P.M. Her Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, October 30 at 11:00 A.M. at Star of the Sea Church, 80 Atlantic Avenue, Marblehead. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
