Nancy Marie (Jennings) Mulligan, devoted wife, cherished mother and doting grandmother, departed this life peacefully at the age of 93 on June 11, 2026.

Nancy was born in Salem to Irish immigrants, Patrick J. and Margaret M. (Leahey) Jennings on August 24th, 1932. Being a first generation American, she was very proud of her Irish heritage. She attended St. James Grammar School and graduated from St. James High School, class of 1949, following which she began employment with the John Hancock Life Insurance company in Salem. She would reaffiliate with John Hancock when the family was stationed in Memphis, Tennessee.

Nancy met the love of her life, Robert D. (Bob) Mulligan Sr., also of Salem, and they were married at Saint James Catholic Church on November 30th, 1957. Bob was a correctional officer with the U.S. Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Prisons, and they set out for Danbury, Connecticut where they began their family. Sons Robert Jr. and Kevin and daughter Patricia were all born in Danbury.

Bob's work with the Bureau of Prisons took the family from Danbury to Safford, Arizona, Sandstone, Minnesota, and Memphis, Tennessee before he retired in 1983. They returned to their hometown of Salem in the early 1990's. Nancy was the backbone of the family during these cross-country moves - ensuring that the family settled in, had a loving and supportive home, made friends, and the kids did their homework.

Nancy and Bob enjoyed 62 years of marriage before his passing in June 2019. In addition to her parents and her husband, Nancy is predeceased by her two brothers, John Jennings and Salem Police Captain William Jennings, and her five sisters, Kathleen and Patricia Jennings, Eileen White, Margaret Bellaconis, and Josephine DiFilippo.

Nancy is survived by her sons, Robert Jr. of Salem and Kevin and his wife Margaret of Beverly, her daughter Patricia Lampl and her husband David of Senoia, Georgia. She was the proud grandmother of Margaret, Patrick, Johannah, James and Sean. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Rose Jennings, brother-in-law, Ron DiFilippo and Charlotte Vallettte, fiancé of her late brother-in-law, Fank Mulligan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church, 15 Hawthorne Blvd., Salem, on Wednesday, June 17th at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will occur at the church at 9:00 a.m., immediately prior to the Mass.
