Obituary

Marblehead…..

Myrtle (Ring) Romano age 90, of Marblehead, died peacefully on Wednesday, November 2007, after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Anthony Romano, with whom she shared 53 years of marriage.

Born in South Portland, ME, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth R. and Ruth (Humphreys) Ring. She graduated with honors from Holten High School in Danvers where she excelled in English literature and grammar, Latin Classes, and school theatrical productions. Referred to in her school yearbook as "Most Loquacious", upon her graduation she went to work as a telephone operator.

Myrtle was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed competition on the tennis court and golf course. She loved the snow and was an accomplished skier. All of which please her husband, Anthony, who worked 50 years for the Salem News as reporter, sports writer and sports editor.

As a working mother, Myrtle was an accountant for Rich's Department Store, retiring in 1986. During their leisure years, Myrtle and Anthony traveled extensively to Florida, California, and Arizona, visiting family and friends.

Myrtle took great pride in her children and was very active in their lives, never missing a dance recital or sports event. As one who valued education above all else, she took particular interest in their schooling and was a member of the Marblehead PTA. Among her many interest was reading and the power of words. Even into her later years, she derived much pride in increasing her vocabulary and enjoyed quizzing her children on what she had learned.

She is survived by a daughter Ruth, of Beverly; a son, Anthony of Marblehead; a brother Kenneth, of Salem; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Robin.
