Miriam F. (Osgood) Bresnahan, age 90, wife of the late William A. Bresnahan, of Salem, died Monday, March 21, 2011 in the Peabody Glenn Nursing Home following a long illness.

A lifelong resident of Salem, she was born in Salem the daughter of the late Harold and Annie (Ellison) Osgood and was educated in Salem schools. Following her graduation from Salem High School in the Class of 1938, Mrs. Bresnahan was trained at Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in Boston and then joined the United States Navy.

Mrs. Bresnahan enjoyed swing music and had met her late husband at a Navy dance. They had a wonderful time and they eventually married. Mr. Bresnahan was reactivated during the Korean War and was stationed at Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay where she also resided during part of his tour of duty until she returned to Salem Willows. Following that discharge, they settled in Salem Willows where they raised their family.

A loving wife and dedicated mother they enjoyed spending time with their family. Later in life they enjoyed travel. A great cook, Mrs. Bresnahan took great pride and pleasure in caring for her family, as well as going to and sitting at Juniper Beach.

Mrs. Bresnahan is survived by two sons Richard Bresnahan, and his wife Susan of Salem and Salem Fire Department Lieutenant William Bresnahan, Jr. and his wife Janet of Beverly; a daughter Judy White and her husband Richard White, Sr of Salem; seven grandchildren Richard White Jr., Christopher and Casey White, Ethan, Shawn, Katie and Shannon Bresnahan; four great grandchildren Brandon, Karly, Haley, Alex and Josephine White.

Her funeral will be held on Friday, March 25, 2011 at 10:00 AM in the Tabernacle Congregational Church, UCC, 50 Washington Street ~ Corner of Federal Street, Salem, MA 01970.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North ST) Salem. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tabernacle Church Memorial Fund, c/o Tabernacle Congregational Church, UCC, 50 Washington Street, Salem, MA 01970.
