Minerva A. (Ambrose) Young, wife of the late Frederick M. Young, of Salem, died on Sunday, Feb. 17 at Harbor House in Hingham, MA. She was 93 years old.
Born in Deer Isle, Maine, the daughter of the late William and Agnes (West) Ambrose. Following her graduation from Danvers High School, Mrs. Young become registered nurse at Salem Hospital School of Nursing, where she met her future husband.
After her marriage, she moved to Salem, where she lived for sixty-five years. Mrs. Young was an active member of Grace Episcopal Church in Salem where she taught Sunday school for many years. She owned Young Engineering in Salem, and was great asset to business community and was well known.
A loving wife and devoted mother to her children, she had a special place in her heart for her late son Frederick Young, with whom she traveled extensively, while supporting his endeavors in the Massachusetts Special Olympics. Mrs. Young was a tireless advocate for those with special needs and Chair of the Board the North Shore Association for Retarded Citizens.
Mrs. Young is survived by three children, Alicia D'Amato and her husband Peter of Miller Place, NY, Carole St. Jean and her husband Ernest of Hull, MA, and William Young of Salem, three grandchildren Sonya Rice, Rachel Kolosky and Marc St. Jean and six great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Allison Ambrose of Danvers, and a sister Jean Kennison of Tavernier, FL, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and son, she was predeceased by two brothers Orville and Rodney Ambrose.
Funeral from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem at 10:15 AM Friday, Feb. 22 , 2008 followed by funeral services at 11:00 A.M. at Grace Episcopal Church, 385 Essex St., Salem. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M . Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
