Michael J. Ortins, R.N., age 38, of Salem died unexpectedly on Tuesday morning April 7, 2009 in Peabody,

Born in Salem the son of Antonio and Noelia (Bettencourt) Ortins of Peabody he was raised in Peabody. Michael was a graduate of Peabody Veteran's Memorial High School and received his Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from Salem State College. Since his graduation, he was employed as a nurse on the North Shore.

Mr. Ortins enjoyed being with his family, playing golf and skiing with his brother as well as watching sports. He also took pride in health and working out at Gold's Gym.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Ortins is survived by a brother Anthony and his wife Joanne Ortins of Bradford; a niece and nephew Gabriella and Evan Ortins of Bradford; his grandmothers Rose Ortins and Senhorinha Bettencourt both of Peabody; his aunt and uncles Manny Ortins, Evelyn Cunha, Mary Nuttal, Manuel, Else, and Joseph Bettencourt and several cousins.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 10:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Walsh Ave., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Monday from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem.
