Mass. Bay Commuter Rail Conductor (Newburyport/Rockport Line) Michael Frisch, age 65 of Salem, died Friday , April 15, 2011 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, following a brief illness.

Born in Peabody, the son of Alfred J. Frisch, now of New Smyrna Beach, FL, and the late Rosemary A. (Brawley) Frisch,
he was raised and educated in Springfield, MA, where he graduated from Springfield Technical High School. As a high school athlete, Michael had been recognized as an all star pitcher, and had been recognized as a member of the 1963 All Western Mass Baseball Team. He then attended Bowling Green University in Ohio until joining the United States Marine Corps during the Viet Nam War.

Following his discharge, Michael earned his small plane pilot's license and became employed by Air North of Burlington, VT for several years. For the past 18 years he has been a employed by Mass Bay Commuter Railroad, most recently as a Conductor on the Newburyport/Rockport line until becoming ill in January of this year.

An avid and dedicated New England Patriots fan, he enjoyed the ocean, deep sea fishing, beaching, and snorkeling.

In addition to his father he is survived by two sisters , Sheila Frisch of Beverly and Karen Pelletier of Georgetown ; two nieces and a nephew, Alicia Lindeman, Jason and Allison Pelletier. He is also survived by his life partner, Carmen Rodriguez and her children Isabel, Jose and Miguel and her six grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a brother Alfred J. Frisch, Jr.

His Funeral will be held on Wednesday April 20, 2011 at 10:00 AM in St James Church, 161 Federal St., Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal ST (cor of North St Salem and diagonally across the street from the Salem train station). Interment will be private. His family extends a special thank you to the staff of the Phillips House of Massachusetts General Hospital and in lieu of flowers request memorial contributions to the Phillips House, c/o Mass General Hospital, 55 Fruit St., Boston, MA 02114 or to the to the Alfred J Frisch Jr. Scholarship Fund at Salem High School, 77 Wilson Rd., Salem, MA 01970.
