Marblehead
Merriam (Egan) Morong of Marblehead passed away surrounded by her loved ones October 4, 2009, at the Hospice of the North Shore, Danvers, at age 61 after a long illness.
Born in Salem, MA June 17,1948, the daughter of J. Thomas Egan and Helen (Merriam) Egan. She attended Marblehead schools and graduated from Marblehead High School continuing on to graduate from American University in Washington DC. Following graduation she was editor of a medical newspaper and books for the National Education Foundation Assoc. She later moved to Boston where she was a medical editor at MIT and Mass General Hospital. She later married William Morong and moved to Maine until 2000 before returning to Marblehead.
She leaves her mother Helen Egan of Marblehead, a son Nathanael Egan Morong, a daughter Hannah Ruth Morong, a step son Joshua Morong, a brother Thomas D. Egan and his family, a loving aunt, Alice Kruse, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She will be remembered by family and friends as someone who always extended a hand in a time of need.
Her Funeral will be held on Saturday at 11 A.M., at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem. At the family's request there will be no visiting hours.
