Danvers, MA - Mellin "Mel" G. Nelson, aged 89 years, passed away on November 26, 2017 at his home in Danvers. The son of the late Nils N.G. and Vera (Grant) Nelson and husband to the late Ann J. (Morgan) Nelson, Mel was born and raised in Beverly and graduated Beverly High School in 1946.
Mel was the former owner of the Liberty Marina in Danvers. He loved to tinker and invent things and the marina was a great environment for him to work on his projects. He even helped to build a lobster boat and a small ferry.
Mel was the father of the late William and Scott Nelson and is remembered by his sister Jacqueline Boudreau, daughter-in-law Maxine Hopkins, 6 grandchildren, Kim Hathaway, Cameron, Billy, Amanda, Connor, and Bryce Nelson; his 3 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. He was a member of Liberty Lodge AF&AM and affiliated with Amity-Mosaic Lodge AF&AM in Danvers. He was a Master Mason for over 50 years. He was also an avid Red Sox Fan.
