Bowden -  Matthew Armstrong, age 39, passed away Thursday, September 21, 2017.  He was born in Syosset, New York, the beloved son of John and Martha (Zietlow) Bowden of Beverly.  Matthew was raised in Beverly and graduated from Beverly High School.  He continued his education and graduated with his bachelor's degree from Salem State College.

Matthew loved volunteering at the Northeast Animal Shelter.  He enjoyed writing books as a hobby during his free time.  Matthew was a kind, gentle, loving man.  He was great company and fun to be with.  He was kind hearted, very generous with his friends and family and highly intelligent.

Surviving him in addition to his loving parents is his loving sister, Hannah Bowden of Brookline and several Aunts, Uncles and many cousins.  He was the grandson of the late Hammond and Dorothy Bowden and the late John and Frances Zietlow.

Funeral services will be held at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 4 Ocean Street, Beverly on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at 11:00 A.M.  Visiting hours will be held at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St, (Corner of Federal and North St) Salem on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.  Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.  Memorial contributions may be made in Matthew's name to the Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Ave, Salem, MA  01970.  For additional information or on line guest book please call 978-744-0497 or visit www.MurphyFuneralHome.com .
