Obituary

MaryLou (Hendricks) Scialdone, 71, passed away peacefully at High Pointe House Hospice on March 16, 2019 after an extended illness and declining health. Born in Salem where she lived most of her life, MaryLou was the daughter of the late Lorraine (Laplante) Hendricks and the late Bertram Hendricks.

In her childhood, she attended St. James Catholic School where she graduated from high school in 1965. After a variety of jobs on the North Shore, she ended up at the North Shore Medical Center Salem Hospital in the late 1970's until her retirement in 2015. MaryLou was a foster parent for many years in the 1980's taking in at-risk teens. She was also a long-time member of the American Legion Herman A. Spear Post 331 and was a former officer in the Ladies Auxillary.

She will be remembered as funny, fair, and kind, a helper and a giver, a peacemaker and a problem-solver.  She was the Number One Go-To person in our family and she will be greatly missed.

MaryLou leaves behind: her daughter Dawn (Bailey) Atkinson and her husband David Atkinson and their daughter Jessica Atkinson of Salisbury, where MaryLou lived for the last 11 months of her life; her other grandchildren, Lance Corporal James Cooper (USMC) and Emily Cooper of Salem whom she raised, as well as Julie-Anne Cooper of Maine; her siblings, Melanie (Hendricks) Provost of Salem and Gale (Hendricks) Saunders of Maine; as well as several nieces and nephews.  MaryLou is predeceased by her daughter, Bonnie-Anne (Bailey) Cooper and her grandson, Jacob Atkinson.

Her Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St, corner of North St, Salem at 2:00 P.M.  Prior to the service, visiting hours will be held from 11 A.M. until 2 P.M.  Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.  For additional information or online guest book, please call 978-744-0497 or visit www.MurphyFuneralHome.com
