Danvers...
Maryann Deane Landolina, 89, formerly of Hathorne Street in Salem, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2010 after a long illness. Maryann was raised in Salem and lived there until 2006, when she moved with her family to Danvers. She attended Salem public schools and Salem Commercial School. In her late teens and early 20's, she and her two sisters, Helen and Georgia (Distasio) were known as the Deane Sisters, who performed voice and dance professionally for many years, locally and in several northeastern states on the RKO Circuit, with Frankie Fontaine, Red Buttons, and the Louis Prima Orchestra. Later she became executive secretary to the president of Caswell Shoes in Lynn and several federal secretarial positions, and finally as executive secretary at the Deane School of Dance until recently.
In the early 1970's, she married Joseph Landolina, who is now deceased. Having no children of her own, she helped raise her nieces and nephews, as well as her grandnieces and nephews. She was known as "Auntie Maryann" by family and "Miss Maryann" by friends. She continued her singing at various performing venues through the years and was considered the comedian in that generation of the family. Her great wit continued throughout her life and helped her through numerous health issues that often slowed her down. She was an inspiration to all that knew her and will be greatly missed.
Maryann leaves behind her sister, Georgia Deane Avellis Ferrucci Young; nieces Cynthia Avellis Marnik, Brenda Bassett Donovan, and Dolores Avellis Oddi; nephews, Dean J. Avellis and William Avellis; grandnieces Seanna Donovan Chmura and her husband Jon, and Rachel Marnik; grandnephews Matthew (Boomer) Marnik and his wife Karen, and Daniel Marnik and his wife Jennnifer, and Dean Albert Avellis; and several great- grandnieces and nephews, Audrey and Harrison Chmura, Abby and Evan Marnik, and Karenna, Skyler, and Ashton Marnik. She was predeceased by her sister Helen Deane Bassett, her brothers-in-law Albert Avellis and James Ferrucci.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral on Friday, July 30, 2010 at 10 a.m. in the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (Corner of North St.) in Salem.
