Salem….

Mary L. (Noon) Vaughan, age 99, wife of the late Howard J. Vaughan of Salem, formerly of Boston, died peacefully on July 25, 2007 at Masconomet Healthcare in Topsfield in Wednesday morning

Born March 25, 1908 she was raised in Lynn the daughter of the late William J. and Lenore (Hill) Noon, Mrs. Vaughan was educated in Lynn Schools graduated from Lynn English High School in the Class of 1925 and then attended Boston College school of art for one year. While in high school and in college, she worked for the JB Blood Company in Malden making signs for the company. During this time Ms. Vaughan met her late husband, Joseph Howard Vaughan at the JB Blood Company and they married on April 30, 1933. The two went on to open their own meat store where they worked together for many years in Lynn.


During their marriage, they had two children; Virginia Ann and Sylvia Francis. Howard died in 1962 of heart failure and Mary never remarried. She moved to Boston on Pinckney Street and worked for Shreve, Crump and Low for 18 years. She specialized in Steuben Crystal working in their fine china and crystal department and had the opportunity to visit the factory to further increase her knowledge about this fine crystal. She later moved to Salem and became employed by Bernard's Jewelry for 18 years until retiring in her early 90's.

Mrs. Vaughan was gifted in so many ways, piano, creative writing and her gift of caring for others. She will be loved and missed by all who were in her presence for the past 99 years. May all the angels sing upon her arrival to heaven!


She is survived by a daughter Virginia Roy of Salem, Oregon; four grandchildren Laurence Roy of Ipswich, Robert Roy of Vienna, VA, Christopher Roy of Richmond, VA and Jennifer Webster of Salem, Oregon; eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a daughter Sylvia Vaughan and two sisters Eva MacLean and Lenore Sullivan.

Her funeral will be held on Monday at 9:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 A:M. in St. Paul's Church, 50 Union St., Hamilton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday from 2 to 6 P.M. in the Murphy Funeral Home. Interment will be private. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to St. Paul's Church, 50 Union St., Hamilton, Ma. 01982 or the Teal Art Center 15 Walnut St., South Hamilton, MA 01982.
