Salem……

Mary (Urban) Shastney age 99, wife of the late Harley Shastney, of Salem formerly of Indian Orchard, MA (now part of Springfield, MA) died in the North Shore Medical Center, Salem Saturday morning, May 8, 2010.

Born in Utica, NY the daughter of the late Ignatius and Julia Urban, she was a hard working, independent, self taught woman who was dedicated to her family. A loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, her home was her pride. She took great pleasure in cooking for her family and gathering for meals. A longtime parishioner of the now closed St. Matthews Roman Catholic Church in Indian Orchard, Mrs. Shastney was a devout catholic.

She is survived by a daughter Roberta Delaney of Salem; three grandchildren, Denise and Marc Delaney both of Salem and Springfield Police Department Sergeant John Delaney of Springfield; three grandchildren Robert Shastney Jr. Lynn Anne and Carolyn Shastney; five great grandchildren Molly, Bridget, Katlyn, Jack Jr., and Jenna; a niece Linda Urban and a nephews Philip Sharon and her longtime friends Marge and Candi.

Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 9:30 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. in the Immaculate Conception Church, 15 Hawthorne Blvd, Salem, MA Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be immediately before the funeral Tuesday from 8:30 A.M. to 9:30 A.M. Interment services will be at 1:30 P.M. in St. Aloysius Cemetery, Indian Orchard (Springfield), MA.
