Salem….

Mary Patricia "Pat" (Gilbride) MacRae, age 74, wife for 52 years of Bruce Whiting MacRae, passed away at home suddenly on Friday August 20, 2010.

Mrs. MacRae, a 47 year resident of Salem held her native home of Ireland deep in her heart. She was the daughter of the late Philip and Nora (McGovern) Gilbride. Following her graduation from the Convent of Mercy in Enniskillen, she came to the United States in 1952 at the age of 16. Mrs. MacRae continued her education in Boston at the Felt Tarrant Comptometer School and held administrative positions at companies which included H.P Hood and Health and Education Services of Salem, MA.

When she and her husband met it was "love at first sight." Along with raising her four beloved sons, she enjoyed traveling, cooking, gardening, reading, WEEI Irish hour, wonder word puzzles, and was active in Cub Scouts.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by four sons, Glenn G. MacRae and his wife Robin of Stratham, NH; Stephen B. MacRae, his wife Robin and their children Justin and Michael of Georgetown; Scott W. MacRae and his son Tyler of Salem; Bruce P. MacRae, his wife Lisa and their sons Ethan and Collin of Danvers; six brothers and sisters Anna Homan and her husband William of Bourne; Philip J. Gilbride and his wife Pauline of North Easton, MA; Patrick Gilbride and his wife Carmel; Hubert Gilbride and his wife Moira; Rosaleen Farrell and Carmel Darcy and her husband Oliver; all of Ireland; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother James Gilbride, a brother in law Fergus Farrell and a close friend, Kathy Donovan.

Her funeral will be held on Friday, August 27, 2010 at 9:15 a.m. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St.) Salem to be followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. James Church, 161 Federal St., Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 4 to 8PM in the funeral home. Internment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem.
