The beloved wife of the late Leonard F. O'Leary died November 12, 2020. Born on March 1, 1943 to James B. Jr and Catherine R (White) Kidney, Mary also known as "Sister" by friends and family, was a lifelong resident of Salem. Mary attended St. James High school and Essex Agricultural and Technical Institute School of Cosmetology. Mary married the love of her life, Lenny, in 1967. A well-known hairdresser at Webbers and then Almy's department stores, Mary then went to work as a Secretary at the Family Business JB Kidney Co Roofing for over 35 years.
Mary enjoyed local politics especially when Lenny was campaigning and was elected to the City Council. Mary attended all City Council meetings when Lenny was in office and was often referred to as the "12 th Councillor" by her Thursday night friends at Bertini's. Mary enjoyed cooking and baking as well as taking cooking classes and spent hours reading cookbooks to find a new and exciting recipe. Mary enjoyed going out to dinner, spending time with family and friends and was a wonderful mom to her dogs, PJ, Molly, Casey and Piper.
Mary is survived by her brothers James E. Kidney of Danvers and Robert M. Kidney and his wife Arlene of Beverly. Her nieces and nephews; Maureen Fisher of Salem who resided with her, Deborah Mikulski of Danvers, Michael Kidney of Danvers, Jamie Kidney of Salem, Scott Kidney of Salem and Ryan Kidney of Vermont, 8 Great nieces and nephews and many friends, especially her lifelong friend Elaine Hogan of Salem. Mary is predeceased by her husband, Leonard F. O'Leary and her brother Kevin R. Kidney.
Services are private and under the direction of the Murphy Funeral Home.
