Mary Elizabeth (Mulroy) Keenan, age 93, wife of the late Robert D. Keenan died Tuesday in Milford Regional Medical Center, Milford, MA.
Mrs. Keenan was born in Boston, the daughter of the late Richard C. and Mary (Clifford) Mulroy and was raised and educated in Milton, MA and later in Portland, ME. Following her graduation from Wellesley College she received her Masters degree in Education from Salem State College. She then became a teacher for the Swampscott Public School System for many years until her retirement in 1974. An avid outdoors person, she moved to Asheville, N.C. where she spent 30 years enjoying hiking and nature.
She was a loving mother who enjoyed the outdoors, knitting, politics and her dogs and took great pride in attending her 70th Class reunion at Wellesley College just three years ago.
Three months ago she moved back to Massachusetts to be with her family and friends. Mary will always be remembered as a dedicated mother and teacher.
Mary is survived by her son, Robert D. Keenan, Jr. of Big Fork, MT, six daughters, Patricia Mitchell of Manchester, MA, Mary Brenda Tremoulet of Fort Wayne, IN, Kathleen Riddle of Asheville, NC, Ellen Godfrey of Marblehead, MA., Mary Beth Keenan of West Tisbury, MA, Juliana Keenan of Waitsfield, VT, Nineteen Grandchildren, Four Great Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by three brothers Vincent, Thomas, and Richard Mulroy.
Her funeral will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 A.M.. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St.,(cor of North St) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 A..M. in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 81 Atlantic Ave., Marblehead. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visitation will be immediately before the funeral Wednesday morning from 9:00A.M. to 10:30. Interment will be in Star of the Sea Cemetery, Marblehead. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to a charity of one's choice.
