Obituary

Salem…..

Mary C. "Molly" (Jordan) Glover age 94, wife of the late John Tucker Glover of Salem, formerly of Marblehead, died Friday evening in North Shore Medical Center, Salem.

Born in Swampscott, March 1914 the daughter of the late Albert P. "Hot Dog" and Mary (McGovern) Jordan, she was raised on the rocky shores of Front St, Marblehead, living a happy life in her early years. Her father operated a small store and hot dog stand in "Old Town" Marblehead for several years. Molly would remember births, wedding and events through out her life which she recalled in her later years with such vivid clarity. She was a wealth of Marblehead's oral history.

Hard times hit the family during the depression. A time she remembered as five children sleeping in one bed and seven people in two rooms. At the age of 14 she left home to take a boarding job to assist the family by leaving home and sending home 80 cents of her one dollar a week salary.

She graduated from Marblehead High School in the Class of 1932. For the next eight years, she worked various jobs until her marriage to John T. Glover in May of 1940. The good times were interrupted by World War II. John proudly served the country and would send all of his money home. Mary would never spend a dime. She had the newest car in Marblehead during the War, but would rarely use it. Instead she walked all over the town's cobblestone streets or took the trolley.

They started a family in 1947 when her husband returned home. In 1950 Mary became a nurse for their daughter, Joanne who suffered from Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. Mary was devoted mother and lived every aspect of Joanne's life, witnessing all of the disappointments her daughter endured until her death four years ago.

Age the age of 94, Mary renewed her driver's license which she held accident free for 67 years. In her final years she was attend various senior center bingos to get her out of the house for a while. She loved the Swampscott and Salem bingo crowds. Frugality was her virtue because of her scars from the depression.

Mrs. Glover is survived by her son John T. Glover of Salem; a sister Dorothy Tustin of Marblehead, a sister in law Jean Jordan of Marblehead and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her daughter M. Joanne Glover, her three brothers Jimmy, Albert, and Thomas Jordan and two sisters in law Addie and Constance Glover.

Her funeral will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 A.M. in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 81 Atlantic Ave, Marblehead, MA. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
