Mary Louise Cummings, age 79, a resident of Hathorne, MA passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 29. She was born in Salem, MA on December 22, 1935 to the late Dr. Charles H. and Joanna M. (Carr) Hogan. Mary was a graduate of Salem High School and Boston College.
On July 15, 1962, she was married to, and is survived by, her loving husband James E. Cummings. Mary and her husband Jimmy enjoyed traveling to the Caribbean and developed a particular fondness for the islands of St. Lucia and Antigua.
She was a devoted and beloved elementary school teacher with the Danvers Public School system until her retirement in 1992. Mary was a pet lover and "Mama" to many dogs and cats over the years. Pugs were a favorite breed and she leaves behind her sweet black Pug, Lizzie.
She is survived by her sister Joan M. Barry of Ipswich, MA. Additionally, she leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, one great grand niece and four great grand nephews.
A viewing will be held from 3 to 7 pm on Thursday, September 3 at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor. of North), Salem, MA. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 9 am on Friday, September 4 at St. Richard's Church in Danvers with burial to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Salem.
