Salem….
Mary T. (Connolly) Heffernan, age 97, of Salem, wife of the late Philip L. Heffernan of Salem, died Thursday morning in Beverly Hospital.
Born in Salem the daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret (Gilroy) Connolly, she was raised in Peabody. Mrs. Heffernan attended St. John's Grammar School and following her graduation from St. John's High School received her degree from the Salem Teacher's College.
In 1939 she married her late husband with whom she shared 24 years of marriage. A wonderful wife and loving mother, Mrs. Heffernan was dedicated to her family. She also had worked alongside her husband at Heffernan's Drug Store in Salem for many years.
Mrs. Heffernan is survived by three children, Ann M. Hood and her husband John of Greenville, TX, Thomas E. Heffernan and his wife Patricia of Danvers and Margaret E. Tipton of Salem; a daughter-in-law Nancy of Lynnfield; seven grandchildren Michael Hood and his wife Rosanne of Texas, Bryan Heffernan of Haverhill, Susan Heffernan of Medford, Kathy Heffernan of Lynn, Philip Heffernan and his wife Rachael of North Hampton, NH, Will Heffernan of Salem, Thomas Hood and his wife Carrie of Texas, five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son Philip Heffernan; five brothers James, John, Thomas, Edward, and Francis Connolly; a sister Margaret Landers; and one great grandchild, Rhiannon Hood.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, at 8:15 A.M from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by a funeral at 9:00 A.M. in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, One Margin St., Peabody, MA. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Monday from 4:00P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem.
