Obituary

Mary (Bonocore) Armstrong, 82, of Peabody, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, died peacefully at High Pointe House Tuesday, May 12, 2020 after a courageous battle with COVID-19. Born in Salem, Mary grew up and devoted the majority of her time raising her family. In her later years she lived in Peabody. She was the daughter of the late Stephena and Francesco Bonocore of Italy. She was a graduate of Salem High School, Class of 1956. Mary worked for many years at the Century House Restaurant and later at the Landmark School. She and her late husband, Frederick "Ray" Armstrong, also owned and operated a family style restaurant in Gloucester for several years. Mary was a person of community and a devout Catholic.

Mary's family was her life. The legacy of her kind and giving spirit, passion for sports, love of food, and limitless strength will live on through them. She was a mother, a Nona, a best friend, and the heart of her family. When her loved ones remember her, they'll think of her enjoying Chinese food at the Willows, her infectious laugh, reading a book, her love of the ocean, playing sports and video games, enjoying the sweet smell of lilacs, trips to the casino, her love of Christmas and gift giving, and yelling at Tom Brady to throw that touchdown.

Mary is survived by her three loving daughters, Sharon McSweeney of Middleton, Donna Armstrong of Lynn, Cindy Chalifour and husband Randy of Peabody. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Tiffany and husband Dan Stanton, Justin and wife Desiree Armstrong, Ariana Chalifour, Adam Chalifour, and Brina Armstrong, as well as great-grandchildren, Rahsool, Nyanna, Meilanni and Jayden. She is predeceased by her husband, three brothers and two sisters.

Unfortunately, due to current circumstances a graveside service will be held at a later date. The family welcomes anyone to donate in Mary's memory to High Pointe House in Haverhill or St. Jude Children's Hospital. https://www.homehealthfoundation.org/for-patients/hospice-care/high-pointe-house/ https://www.stjude.org/promotion/impact-giving-pm.htm .
