Marjorie A Haverty age 89, a longtime City of Salem school teacher, died Friday, May 21 in the North Shore Medical Center.
Born in Salem, the daughter of the late Laurence and Mary A (Harding), she was graduated from Salem High School and Salem Teachers College (Now Salem State College). Miss Haverty then began what would become a long teaching career at the Saltonstall School in Salem.
Miss Haverty had many interest in her life including history, travel, her friends and going out to eat. Always full of interesting information she particularly enjoyed conversation. She was an avid Boston Sports fan, and not only knew all of the players , but their statistics as well. She and her late sister, Mary Haverty also a teacher, had season tickets to the Boston Red Sox and Bruins for many decades.
Predeceased by her sister Mary L Haverty, she is survived by numerous cousins, close friends and students she had taught.
Her funeral will be held on Wednesday May 26, 2010 at 8:15 AM from theMurphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal ST (cor of North St Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 9:00 AM in St Thomas the Apostle Church, 1MarginSt Peabody (on the Salem Peabody Line). Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Interment will be inSTMary's Cemetery Salem.
