Obituary
Marion Patricia (Hayes) Dowd, age 77 passed away peacefully at Home on Monday, January 5, 2015. She was the beloved wife of Commander John E. Dowd, Jr. USN (ret.) and the daughter of the late Catherine J. (Crean) Hayes and the late Leo J. Hayes. Marion was born in Danvers on November 2, 1937,
Marion and her husband lived in Newport, RI, Brooklyn, NY, Washington, D.C., Santiago, Chile, South America, and metro Detroit, MI
Marion graduated from Salem High School '55, received her RN from St. Elizabeth's Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1958. Marion retired from her nursing career after 41 years.
She is survived by her husband and five children: John E. III, his wife Beth and their two daughters in Atlanta, GA; Thomas M. and his 4 children in Hawley, PA; Susan E. Cairns, her husband Robert and their 7 children, in Cary, NC; Amy J., her husband Stephen Ruppert and their 4 children in Laceyville, PA; daughter-in-law Kim S. Dowd and her 2 children in Keene, NH, and Jennifer J. Dowd of Stoughton, MA. Marion was predeceased by her son Michael A. who died suddenly in Jan 2010.
Marion also leaves her sister and brother-in-law Patricia and Roland Morency of Salem, her brother and sister-in-law John and Sarah (Sally) Hayes of Salem, her sister –in-law and brother-in-law Marlene and Edward Duggan of Danvers, her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Russell and Susan Dowd of Madison, NH, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends.
Visitation for family and close friends will be held at Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St, Salem, (corner of
North Street), Salem, MA on Wednesday January 7 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Her funeral will be held on Thursday at 9:15 A.M from the Murphy Funeral Home to be followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Thomas The Apostle Church 260 North Street, Salem MA. A burial will be at St. Mary's cemetery in Salem, MA.
