Marblehead - Born in Painesville, Ohio to Stephen and Charlotte Paulinsky in 1948, Marilyn Louise Pevear of Marblehead died suddenly on March 16th.
Marilyn graduated from Riverside High School, Painesville, OH, Miami University of Ohio, and held a Master's in Social Work from Boston College.
Marilyn started her Social Work career in 1968 as a Caseworker at the Lake County Welfare Dept., Painesville, OH. While at BC she worked at Cape Ann Children and Family Guidance Center, Gloucester, MA, where she loved the family focus, and Massachusetts General Hospital Social Work Dept., Boston, MA.
In 1973 Marilyn was one of the earliest hires to Salem Hospital Mental Health Dept. as a Psychiatric Social Worker and later a Psychotherapist. Marilyn was a member of the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health North East Area Board for 6 years. Marilyn directed much of her career on child and adolescent mental health until retiring.
Marilyn was an avid gardener and a member of the Winter Garden Club for 24 years, which provided her with many long-lasting friendships. Marilyn was a dedicated and enthusiastic president for several years. Marilyn was a talented floral designer and loved participating in garden club shows, the MFA "Art and Bloom", and arrangements for the Hooper Mansion in Marblehead. Marilyn always stepped in when help was needed.
Although not originally a sailor or skier, she married one.
Trips to "The Farm" to ski, snowshoe, or cross-country ski, became a regular part of Marilyn's life.
Marilyn with her husband Bill are longtime members of the Eastern Yacht Club. Marilyn enjoyed many years of cruising on their sailboat Halcyon II with trips to Maine and the Cape. She loved dinners at the club and especially Sunday night buffets. Recently she enjoyed working on the history committee and participating in the book club. Marilyn's first date with Bill was the 1976 505 North America Championship awards party at the Eastern. There was no looking back, Bill and Marilyn were partners for life!
Marilyn is survived by her husband William (Bill) Lewis Pevear and her daughter Kathryn Louise Pevear of Westbrook, Maine. Also, her brother David Paulin and his wife Anne of Topsfield, MA, sister Kathy Foley of Hudson, OH, sister in-law Ann Pevear of Marblehead. Nieces and nephews; Jim Foley of Hawaii, Kelly Schin of Colorado, Carolyn Gregory of Vermont, Laura Paulin of New Hampshire, Amy Paulin of Boston, Sigrid Orne of Marblehead, Brad Barton of Connecticut. Great aunt to 7 nieces and 2 nephews, she was a proud and loving aunt to all.
Visiting hours will be held at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal Street, Salem on Friday, March 22, 2024 from 3 pm to 7 pm. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend.
