Marijane McCloskey passed away peacefully at home with her husband Jack on September 20th after a brief illness. She was 83 years old. Janey and Jack were married for 62 years.
Jane grew up in Chestnut Hill with her parents James A and Marjorie B Walsh and her brothers and sister Randy Walsh and Peggy Burke of Marblehead and the late Jim Walsh from Hyannis. She graduated from Mt. Alvernia School in Chestnut Hill, Elmherst Academy in Providence, RI and Manhattanville College of the Sacred Heart in New York City.
Jane met Jack while summering in Nahant in 1946. They were married at St Ignatius Church, Boston College in 1950 and settled in Marblehead in 1956.
Jane is the dedicated mother of 7 children; Michael, Mark and Mary McCloskey, Madeleine Anderson of Marblehead; Martha McCloskey of Pismo Beach, CA; Meghan McCloskey of East Jewitt, NY and the late Matt McCloskey of Glendale, CA. Her 14 grandchildren are: Jay, Anna, Michaela, Jorgan, Ingrid, Ralph, Lexi, Austin, Dylan, Lindsay, Jack, Walter, Bobby and Elena. Marie 'Queen' Ward of Marblehead was her closest personal friend.
Jane lived in Marblehead and Vieques Is., PR. She was proud of worked at the National Grand Bank for 24 years and retired as an Officer of Operations in 1993. Janey was also deeply involved in town government where she was Secretary of the Finance Committee, a member of the Capital Planning Board and a member of the League of Women Voters. She was liaison for parish finance for Our lady Star of the Sea Church in Marblehead. Jane was a popular member of the Navy League in Vieques and cherished frequent visits from her many friends and extended family.
Jane loved going to the beach and entertaining at home. She was an avid sailor and passed her passion for the water onto her children and grandchildren. Her boundless optimism, bright eyes and unending sense of humor will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing and being with her.
A Mass of Celebration of Jane's Life will be held at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 85 Atlantic Ave, Marblehead on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at 10:00 AM.
