Maria Abreu Deserto (Sky), 79, passed away peacefully at home on August 19, She was a unique and caring individual who touched the lives of all who knew her. She married José M. Deserto in 1970 and raised 3 loving children. She was completely dedicated to her husband and children in all aspects of their lives.

Maria was born and raised in Santa Marinha, Portugal until she moved to the United States in 1965. Maria enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and always had an infectious smile to greet everyone. She made it a priority to make her home a place for everyone to feel  comfortable and loved with her beautiful flowers & gardening. She was known for playing practical jokes, make the best fried dough & her mystical pinky finger that magically manifested $20 when you needed it.

She was survived by her 3 children; Filomena Deserto of Peabody, MA, Sebastian Deserto of Chandler, AZ, Olalia Deserto and her significant other Kevin Pease of Peabody MA, her 3 grandchildren; Cassandra Lipson and her husband Ben of Toronto Canada, Sarita Fawehinmi and her husband Steve of Manchester, NH, Spencer Summit of Peabody, MA, & 3 great-grandchildren Sofiya, Sabrina and Selyna and her 3 sisters, Arminda, Assucena, Sue and their spouses, as well as extended family and friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband, José, her parents, Sebastiao and Maria do Ceu Santos Monteiro Abreu; a sister, Palmira Crisostimo, 3 brothers, Gaspar, Carlos and Antonio Abreu.

Maria's Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, August 25, 2022 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, One Margin St, Peabody.  It is requested that relatives and friends join the immediate family at the Church.  Burial will take place at St. Mary Cemetery, North St, Salem immediately following Mass.  For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105.  For additional information or online guest book please call 978-744-0497 or visit www.MurphyFuneralHome.com
