Obituary

Salem….

Margaret T. (Thompson) Barrett, age 96, wife of the late Daniel Barrett died Friday morning in the Pilgrim Rehabilitation and Nursing Home, Peabody.

A lifelong resident of Salem, she was born in Salem the daughter of the late S. Joseph and Ellen C. (Flynn) Thompson. Mrs. Barrett was educated at St. James Grammar and High School and was graduated from the Salem Commercial School. She then became employed by the New England Telephone for several years until marrying her late husband and beginning a family.

A dedicated and loving mother, she was an active lifelong parishioner of St. James Church where she was a member of the St. James Socialites. She was also active with the Salem Senior Citizens for many years.

Mrs. Barrett is survived by two children James Barrett and his wife Elaine of Lawrence and Ellen Shockley and her husband Richard of Commerce, GA; four grandchildren Daniel and his wife Danielle Barrett and Stephen Barrett, Joanna Martinuk and her husband James and Brian Shockley ; and five great grandsons Ryan, Aiden, and Nathan Barrett and Foster and Griffin Martinuk and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by three brothers the Right Reverend Monsignor Michael P. Thompson, Attorney Francis J. Thompson and Edward J. Thompson.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral on Saturday, March 15 at 9:00 A.M. in St. James Church, 161 Federal St. Salem. Interment will be in ST. Mary's Cemetery, Salem. At the family's request there are no visiting hours.
