Margaret Jean Queenan, age 95 of Salem, died in the Grosvenor Park Nursing Home surrounded by her loving nieces and nephews.

Born in New York City, New York, the daughter of the late George A. and Kathryn (Murphy) Queenan, she was raised in Salem. A lifetime communicant of St. James Church, Miss Queenan was graduated from St. James High School in the Class of 1927 and had attended both Boston University and the Salem Commercial School.

Her career began at Gregory and Reed Shoe in Lynn. She later became employed at Munroe and Arnold Merritt Express in Salem and eventually became business partner until her retirement when the business closed.

Very active in St. James Church parish life, Miss Queenan had served as a sacristan since her high school years until her late 80s. She was also a member of the St. James Socialites. She was an expert seamstress and enjoyed knitting for her family and the annual church bizarre. She volunteered for many church fund raising events.
She is deeply appreciated by her family for the loving care she had given her parents, siblings, nieces and nephews throughout her life.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews: John and Joann Queenan, David and Patricia Queenan, Monica and Wayne Friedl, Marie Fouhey, James and Agnes Fouhey, William and Nancy Fouhey, Margaret and Norman Roberts, Barbara and Salem Police Department Sergeant Mark Riley, George and Patricia Queenan, Joanne Comerford and Jim Camire, Kathleen McMath, John and Joanne Queenan, Paul Queenan, Ann Richardson, Patrick and Laura Queenan, Frances Queenan, Louise and Robert Davis, Michael and Karen Queenan and Dorothy Queenan and many great nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her sister Dorothy Fouhey and her three brothers George A. Queenan, Richard J. Queenan and John F. [Jack] Queenan and a niece Kathy Queenan.

Her funeral will be held on Saturday at 8:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North ST) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 9:00 A.M. in ST James Church , 161 Federal ST, Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Friday from 4 to 8 P.M. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem.
