Margaret C. "Peg" Phillips, age 90 of Salem died Saturday morning in the Grosvenor Park Nursing Home, Salem.

A life long resident of Salem, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary (Davitt) Phillips. Miss Phillips was educated in Salem schools, graduating from Salem High School in the Class of 1936. She then became employed by Sylvania Lighting in Danvers until joining the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the Salem Public Welfare Office. Later she transferred to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Social Services office for the Salem Beverly area until her retirement.

A lifelong parishioner of St.
Thomas the Apostle Church, Miss Phillips had been active with the St. Thomas the Apostle Church Prayer Group and Social Group.

She is survived by two nephews David Phillips of Salem and James Phillips of Guadalupe, CA.

She was predeceased by her brother James Phillips and a sister Mary Phillips.

Her funeral will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2009 at 8:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 9:00 A.M. in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 260 North St., Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 1 Margin St., Peabody, MA 01960.
